Snow, Wintry Mix Possible on Sunday
Though Sunday marks the start of March and the first day of meteorological spring, we have a wintry forecast ahead to close out the weekend. Snow chances will ramp up heading toward the afternoon hours in southeast Nebraska.
Winter weather alerts are in place for northeast Kansas, far southeastern Nebraska and into north-central Missouri. A Winter Weather Advisory will be in place for Nemaha, Pawnee, and Richardson Counties from 3 p.m. Sunday, March 1 until 9 a.m. CST Monday, March 2.
Precipitation starts out as snow in south-central Nebraska early on Sunday before transitioning to a snow/freezing drizzle mixture by the afternoon in southeast Nebraska according to the latest runs of StormCast.
Dry air in the mid-levels of the atmosphere will have to be overcome throughout the afternoon, combined with the chance for mixed precipitation will help keep snow totals on the lighter side in southeast Nebraska. Roads are still expected to be slick, which will create difficulties for travel.
Bringing us back to Saturday evening into Sunday, expect temperatures a couple of degrees above average with overnight temperatures in the lower 20s.
We will see increasing cloud cover tonight for the Capital City and a light northeasterly wind will leave us feeling chilly overnight.
Our average high temperature for the first day of March is in the mid-40s, but we will be lucky to get above freezing on Sunday.
Temperatures recover for the start of the work week, though we do get several chances at some much-needed precipitation. Sunshine returns briefly on Wednesday as temperatures return to the 50s. We stay warmer with a chance for showers and possibly a thunderstorm leading up to the start of Daylight-Saving Time.
