Snowy roads halt state senator’s morning commute to Nebraska Legislature
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – State Sen. Julie Slama got stuck on her way to work Friday on snowy roads in Otoe County.
Slama was heading toward the State Capitol with her 7-week-old boy when she started noticing little drifts of snow in the road.
The drifts got bigger and deeper until it was too late. Slama said the snow drifts were about 3 feet deep in some areas.
“I was ready to go to work around six, loaded the baby in the car and started heading one way down a dirt road that way was drifted shut,” Slama said.
Heads up- I’m not in the Legislature this morning because my county road is drifted shut. Ended up high-centered and stranded in the truck on my way to work with the baby.
We’re safely back at home thanks to my amazing husband, Andrew. pic.twitter.com/ULqG4e3fr1

Slama’s husband had to pick her and the baby up in the family tractor.
Jerad Sornson, chairman of the Otoe County Board of Commissioners, said Thursday’s snow squall worsened road conditions.
“It was pure white, you could not see anything,” he said. “It was probably within 20 minutes that drifts were starting back up.”
Roads in the county have been reopened, but some only have one lane open.
