Sources: Nebraska football hiring offensive consultant after loss to UCLA

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska football is hoping to remedy the team’s stagnant offense with a new addition to its staff.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Tuesday that former Houston and West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen is being hired as an offensive consultant.
Holgorsen led West Virginia for 8 seasons, finishing with a 61-41 record and three AP top-20 finishes.
He was then hired as Houston’s head coach in 2019. The Iowa native was fired after a 4-8 season in 2023.
Thamel said Holgorsen, who was serving as an analyst for TCU, will work with Nebraska’s offensive staff “in a role that will evolve as the season goes on.”

The hiring comes after a loss to UCLA at home, where the Huskers’ offense struggled to overcome the Bruins’ defense.
Nebraska has three games left this season: USC, Wisconsin and Iowa. The Huskers are one win away from bowl eligibility.
At a Monday press conference, head coach Matt Rhule said “outside people” would come in and help diagnose some of the team’s problems.
“In my history, that’s one of the best things you can do, have a fresh set of eyes look at it,” Rhule said. “I’m going to have some people I trust to look at us both on offense and defense and look at what we’re doing and then go from there.”
Nebraska is on a bye week before traveling to California for the game against Big Ten newcomer USC.
