Southeast Lincoln crash sends motorcyclist to hospital

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Police Department is investigating a crash in southeast Lincoln on Saturday that sent a motorcyclist to the hospital.
Just after noon, first responders were sent to the Pioneers Boulevard access road between Nebraska Parkway and 33rd Street for an injury accident.
LPD investigators said a Dodge delivery van was driving east on the access road when they turned left in front of an oncoming motorcycle.
The bike crashed into the rear passenger side of the van, according to LPD.
Officials said the driver of the motorcycle was a 56-year-old Lincoln man and was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery. His injuries are considered life-threatening.
LPD said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the van was a 35-year-old man from Omaha and he didn’t have any injuries.
Officials said he volunteered to be checked out by an LPD Drug Recognition Expert, although LPD said no impairment was suspected at the scene.
Any charges for the driver of the van are pending the outcome of the investigation, LPD said.
The area surrounding the crash scene will be shut down for several hours as investigators finish their work.
