Split reaction from parents after the first day of school for LPS kids
While some were happy with what they saw, others were concerned.

It’s been a widely debated school year for Lincoln Public Schools.
“I think the community was divided and they did the best they could to please everybody. I’m glad how it’s turned out so far,” Kevin Savoie said.
Major changes like mask requirements to sanitizing were set in place to bring kids back to the classroom this fall.
Some parents are still worried, rules aren’t being followed.
“Kids were clumped together, parents were there and nobody was social distancing. There wasn’t really any directive,” Maureen DeRyke said.
While others were happy to see teachers and staff taking action.
“They focused really hard on social distancing and having fun for everybody. They used the concrete lines and big bright signs so everybody knew where to stand and it made things so much easier,” Savoie said.
While dropping his son off at Calvert Elementary Wednesday morning, Savoy said it was a promising sign that things were going well. Social distancing was a top priority.
At other schools, kids were fairly close as they lined up to walk in. Parents sent photos to Channel 8 that showed kids at multiple schools clustered together but all wearing their mask.
The images are what have some parents worried for what the future may hold.
“Well that’s the biggest scare is because if you aren’t doing it from the get go, two weeks from now, three weeks from now, what are we going to see?” DeRyke said.
