StarTran worker honored for saving co-worker’s life

A Lincoln StarTran worker received a big honor Monday afternoon.
Mayor Chris Beutler presented the Annual Mayor’s Award of Excellence for 2018 to William Maul. Maul is a mechanic for StarTran.
Maul was nominated after he helped save the life of a co-worker who he noticed was having breathing problems. Maul jumped into action, performing CPR until paramedics arrived three minutes later and helped save the woman’s life.
“Its been an honor to receive this award,” Maul said during the ceremony in the City Council chamber. “I don’t really have much to say expect for it all turned out well for the person I helped and that is what really matters.”
City officials praised his quick thinking and willingness to act.
“You took this heroic action, ” said Miki Esposito, Director of Public Works and Utilities. “You are the person we would want to respond if we were in trouble. You are a true super hero and we really appreciate the work you do every day. But particularly you took care of one of our own.”
Maul will receive a $250 gift certificate, two days off with pay, a plaque and the Mayor’s Medallion.
