State Allowing Deer Hunting In Mahoney State Park

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is asking deer hunters to try their luck at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park near Ashland.

Officials say the glut of deer within the park are causing crop damage and vehicle collisions. The commission is looking for hunters to harvest antlerless deer in designated areas of the park this season.

In the past, deer hunting has not been allowed at the park.

Hunters must apply for the hunt, and only bow and arrow and muzzleloaders may be used.

In addition to a deer permit and habitat stamp, hunters must have a special access permit, as well as a park entry permit for each vehicle entering the park.
