State Patrol: 60 pounds of methamphetamine seized in traffic stop in western Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A California man was arrested Monday after authorities say he was caught with 60 pounds of methamphetamine.

Around 9 a.m., a trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol pulled over a Honda CRV for driving on the shoulder of Interstate 80 near Sidney.

During the traffic stop, the trooper became suspicious of criminal activity and searched the vehicle.

According to the state patrol, the search revealed dozens of packages of suspected methamphetamine in a suitcase.

The total weight of the packages was 60 pounds, the state patrol said.

The driver, 29-year-old Elmer Posadas Castro, of El Monte, California, was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth and intent to deliver.

He was lodged in the Cheyenne County Jail, and the investigation remains ongoing.
