State Trooper gives Marine, home on emergency family leave, ride through snow storm

A Nebraska State Trooper literally went the extra mile to help a Nebraska Marine.
The Marine, who was home on emergency family leave, was trying to get to his family’s home in Loomis, Nebraska, but travel conditions were extremely poor due to the statewide snowstorm.
Out of respect, NSP would not identify him or say what the exact circumstances of the emergency were.
The Marine reached out for help, and Trooper Zach Schmidt answered the call.
“The roads that night were pretty nasty, there was snow and black ice everywhere,” Schmidt said.
Schmidt drove the Marine to his family’s home — and gave a family that was already going through a lot a sense of relief, knowing their son was home safe.
It’s an honor to serve someone like that because he has sacrificed so much of his personal life,” Schmidt said. “It’s people like him who give us the freedoms we have here in America, so I’m definitely always happy to help any military members.”
Schmidt told Channel 8 Eyewitness News the Marine was extremely grateful for the help.
