State volleyball tournament: Day one recap

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – It was an action-packed day of high school volleyball at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Wednesday.

The games began with Class B.

No. 1 Norris took care of business, taking down Gering in three sets.

No. 4 Waverly also advanced in Class B, defeating Gretna in sweeping fashion as well.

The two powerhouses will meet in the tournament’s quarter-final match this coming Friday at 5 p.m.

In Class C1, Malcolm stunned Lincoln Lutheran in a five-set thriller.

Milford also advanced, beating an excellent Adams Central team in four sets.

In Class A, Lincoln North Star took on in-town rival Lincoln Southeast.

The Gators swept the Knights behind strong performances from juniors Delainey Volkmer and Elsie Schmidt.

Volkmer led the team with 16 kills, and Schmidt led the team in digs with 12. Schmidt also racked up 10 kills and dropped eight aces.

Finally, Lincoln Southwest fell in four sets after a thrilling set-one victory to Papillion-La Vista South.

The tournament will resume tomorrow from PBA.
