Still hot/humid on Tuesday; A few showers possible
THE HEAT REMAINS IN PLACE
Tuesday will be another hot and muggy day across the state. We’re forecasting high temperatures in the middle-90s in Lincoln. It will likely be a touch cooler to the northeast and warmer to the southwest. In fact, some locations closer to Hebron and Hastings could see highs past 100°.
The humidity will place heat index values near 100° by Noon and upwards of 105-106° by peak heating. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun if you can, and be on the lookout for signs of heat illness if outdoors.
Heat Advisories have been extended to last through Friday for much of the state. The effect of 100°+ heat indices spanning several afternoons warrants the longer-duration advisory. This is because excessive heat effects are cumulative, with the threat of heat-related illness growing with each day of intense heat.
TUESDAY RAIN CHANCES
There is a rain chance on Tuesday. A weak upper-level wave will pass through the area, which could bring a few showers and storms to southeast Nebraska. These will not be big rainmakers, and they would probably occur at some point during the morning or early afternoon
While this may provide some relief from the heat, its effect will only be temporary. For that matter, these showers will likely be gone by peak heating.
Meanwhile, another wave of storms will get underway in western Nebraska by Tuesday evening. This wave will push east, perhaps resulting in some isolated storm activity late Tuesday night for areas closer to Lincoln.
