Stolen vehicle crashes into state trooper and a tree during pursuit

Saturday morning around 9:30, a Nebraska State Patrol trooper observed a Jeep Liberty that matched the description of one that had been reported stolen.

The trooper attempted a traffic stop near 19th and E, but the vehicle fled. The trooper pursued the vehicle on several streets until it was traveling northbound on 45th street near Pound Middle School.

The suspect vehicle braked sharply to make contact with the trooper patrol vehicle. The collision caused the suspect vehicle to strike a tree, and two suspects then fled on foot.

The driver was quickly located and taken into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed a methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The driver, Ian Ivey, 22, of Lincoln, was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, driving under suspension, and other charges.

Ivey was lodged in Lancaster County Jail. The passenger is still at large. The entire pursuit lasted less than 10 minutes.
