StorkCraft Crib Recall

It’s the largest crib recall in U.S. history because of a fatal flaw.  More than 2 million StorkCraft cribs made between 1993 and October of this year are being recalled.  The flaw is already blamed for the death of four infants.

Jayna Keller says, “Its very scary.  A place where you think your infant should be safe, the fact that something like that could happen is devastating.

The crib that’s being recalled has what’s called a drop-side.  It gives the parent easier access, but the child can become stuck and end up suffocating.

The Kids Stuff Superstore in Lincoln doesn’t carry the brand of crib, but store owner Aaron pPederson says this isn’t the first recall of its kind.  “A drop-side crib has been around for 30 or 40 years.  A well-built crib shouldn’t have that problem, but keep in mind ,less expensive cribs are made with less expensive parts and that’s where you tend to find the failures.”

While Keller’s one–year–old daughter sleeps in a drop–side crib, but of a different brand, she says she’ll double check to make sure she’s safe while she sleeps.  “I’ll get online, look at the style that I have and make sure its not the style that’s been recalled.”

StorkCraft released a statement saying, “the four deaths happened a long time ago and were found to be a result of improper use.”

If you do have this type of crib you can contact StorkCraft for a repair kit.
