Storm chances Friday evening, overnight before cooling down
Friday is our final hot day before cooler air settles in this weekend.
Saturday will then break the streak of 9 straight days at or above 90° here in Lincoln. Thinking we will hit 90 again Friday, with temperatures cooler up toward northeast Nebraska as they see the cold front with some clouds and scattered showers first today.
The heat index Friday afternoon for southeast Nebraska will still be up around the lower and middle 90s.
So it’ll be a hot start to the Block Party downtown to celebrate Husker volleyball kicking off the season as Lincoln hosts the AVCA First Serve Showcase.
If you’re headed downtown Friday evening or have outdoor plans, there could be a couple storms in the area, trying to close in on Lincoln between about 5-7PM. This storm or two would be quick to move on as these chances look widely scattered at first.
Then past midnight, more storm development happens around and south of I-80 in south-central and southeast Nebraska before clearing out as the sun comes up Saturday morning.

There is a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk for severe weather Friday afternoon into Friday night, with the main threats of some gusty winds and hail with a few of the strongest storms.
Once storms clear early Saturday, it’ll feel so much better outside in the lower humidity. Temperatures continue to cool for a high only in the 70s on Sunday.
The days of lower humidity do last into early next week, with temperatures mainly in the 70s through the end of August.
