Storm chances starting to increase

While western Nebraska saw a fair amount of thunderstorm activity on Thursday evening, eastern Nebraska barely saw anything. That could change over the next couple of days.

Friday will feature a mixture of sun and clouds, and it will be another very warm day. We’re forecasting high temperatures in the upper-80s, and perhaps low-90s in a few spots.

Friday Forecast

Although we should be dry for much of the morning, storms will develop into the afternoon. We’re only looking at isolated activity closer to Lincoln, meaning that many areas close to the capital city may miss out on rain.

However, we’ll see storms on a slightly more widespread basis along a weak frontal boundary in central Nebraska. That front will move east on Friday night, resulting in scattered storms overnight Friday and into Saturday for southeast Nebraska.

Stormcast Friday

There will be many dry hours on Friday, and not everyone may end up seeing storms. Locally heavy rain is possible with totals over 1″ in a few areas, but there will be some unluckier locations that barely see anything. It is likely that the higher totals will occur west of Lincoln on Friday.

Precipitation Potential

Nevertheless, more scattered storms will be possible on Saturday. This offers a slightly better rain chance in Lincoln. As a result, we’re forecasting high temperatures to be quite a bit cooler as well.

There’s a small chance for a lingering shower or two in the pre-dawn hours on Father’s Day, but the rest of the day should be dry. We’ll also start to warm things back up as well. By Monday, we should be back in the 90s.
