Storms out west first; better chances by Thursday for eastern Nebraska

Wednesday will be a dry day for most with temperatures nearing 80 degrees once more. Some stronger storms are expected out west before our better chances arrive on Thursday.

Next 2 Days

For Wednesday afternoon and evening, the Storm Prediction Center has far western Nebraska in a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk for mainly large hail and damaging wind as the main hazards with those storms that develop.

Spc Wed

Storms are expected to develop by the late afternoon and early evening, moving east and losing intensity after sunset. Most of these storms are expected to die off as they get into central Nebraska before more storms redevelop mainly north of I-80 by Thursday morning.

Stormcast Wed

But by Thursday afternoon, storms will become more widespread in central Nebraska with the potential for a couple to be severe. A Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk is in place for gusty winds and some hail, but an isolated tornado also cannot be ruled out.

Spc Thurs

Those storms by Thursday evening move into eastern Nebraska and last into Friday morning.

Thu Stormcast

Besides the risk of gusty winds and some hail accompanying these storms, heavy rainfall is also a possibility as the storms will be slower to move out. Models are hinting at the potential for at least 1-2″ over much of eastern Nebraska.

Dma Precipitation Any Model

Instances of flash flooding could be possible especially for those south of I-80 into Friday.

Beyond this, another round of strong (and possibly severe, but too early to tell) thunderstorms will come sometime around Sunday to Monday, so keep that in mind as we get closer to the weekend.
