Storms possible the rest of the weekend
After being mainly dry and less humid most of Saturday, we’ve got to mention the next chance for some of us to see storms in the near future.
Between 10-11 p.m. Saturday night, storms from the Black Hills should be rolling into north central Nebraska. As these continue south and east, damaging winds and large hail will be possible at first.
There’s a Slight risk that these will be severe as they move into Nebraska, but not for long. There is also a Marginal risk for storms in SW Nebraska Saturday evening, with isolated strong storms possible for a time.
Overall, the severe threat is expected to drop off overnight with these thunderstorms moving into our area closer to daybreak. Some heavy rainfall will be possible through the morning hours, with a break expected before the main event.
Sunday will likely feature some stronger storms by the afternoon along an incoming cold front. This is also dependent on how much the cloud cover clears between rounds, but these look to happen south of I-80 during this timeframe. There’s a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk that these storms could be severe, bringing damaging winds and large hail as the primary threats.
Models are still hinting at a lot of rain possible through Sunday night, with non-severe storms during the morning and stronger storms possible by the afternoon. Model coverage along the front is a bit uncertain, so possible totals range from a quarter of an inch to over an inch.
If the storms happen as widespread as the Stormcast version seen above, we’d be looking at totals closer to an inch. This model run (below) is one of the less optimistic versions.
We could see the rain linger into Monday, setting us up for a cooler stretch through Wednesday. We’re anticipating a good break in the action for most of next week, too.
