Storms, some strong, possible Saturday and Sunday evenings into Memorial weekend
A line of strong storms zoomed across eastern Nebraska, producing damaging wind, some hail and potential embedded tornadoes early Friday morning. All the severe weather warnings issued across Nebraska from Thursday evening after 7 p.m. into Friday morning can be seen below.
Numerous storm reports confirm those strong storms with 17 reports of tornadoes as storms picked up first in western Nebraska Thursday evening.
The rest of Friday will feature clearing skies and cooler temperatures behind the cold front. Northwest winds will pick up and potentially gust around 25-30 mph into the afternoon.
Some strong, and potentially severe, storms are possible over the weekend. Keep this in mind with any outdoor plans Saturday and Sunday evenings.
Especially Saturday evening, there’s another risk of severe weather across south-central and southeast Nebraska. Some storms are expected to move in from southwest Nebraska by Saturday night, threatening mainly large hail and gusty winds.
There is a smaller chance for a brief tornado in south-central Nebraska.
But one of the main hazards will be hail up to 2″ in diameter possible toward south-central Nebraska where you see the black hashes.
Some stronger wind gusts up to 70 mph will be possible with what storms form.
Here’s one of the latest runs from Stormcast that shows those scattered storms moving into southeast Nebraska after 10 p.m. Saturday night.
Stay weather aware throughout the weekend as periodic thunderstorms are expected again by Sunday evening into Monday morning.
