Stormy and hot to start the week

This week is rolling in hot and humid with continued storm chances.

The heat will be especially dangerous across southeast Nebraska, where the Heat Risk is up to the “Major” category. That means this type of heat is uncommon – much of the population will be affected and proper hydration and cooling will be very important.

Heat Risk Monday State

Temperatures on Monday will be soaring back into the 90s, with a heat index in the upper 90s. It’ll be quite windy, too.

State Temps Monday

We have yet to catch a break – Monday and Tuesday will continue to be active days with severe potential somewhere across the state. For Monday, it’ll be similar areas of western and northern Nebraska under a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk for the late afternoon and evening.

Monday Spc

A tornado or two cannot be ruled out with the more organized storms this evening in southwest Nebraska.

Mon Tor

Large hail will be one of the primary threats, though. Especially over the area with black hash marks, hail up to 2″+ in diameter will be possible.

Mon Hail

Damaging winds with any storm will be on the table as well.

Mon Wind

Scattered thunderstorms may develop along a warm front lifting through Nebraska by the evening hours. The video below has hour-by-hour what may play out later tonight in monitoring that severe potential.

Storms Monday

The severe threat shifts to eastern Nebraska on Tuesday.

The Storm Prediction Center upgraded that risk to a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk as of this morning. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main concern.

A line of storms will ride in along a cold front by the late afternoon and evening on Tuesday, bringing cooler weather for Wednesday.
