"If it hadn’t been for the quick response of staff last night and the speedy taking steps to do what was necessary to start the CPR process he wouldn’t have made it," said Earl Richardson.

Earl Richardson credits his staff at the People’s City Mission for saving a man’s life.

Late Wednesday night he got a call saying one of the residents in the men’s shelter was found unresponsive.

That’s when two of his staffers jumped in to help.

"One of my staff checked for a pulse on his wrist, also checked his neck for a pulse and didn’t feel a pulse."

One of the men called 911, while the other checked for an obstructed airway and then began CPR.

"They kept doing CPR process with the chest compressions, checking his pulse, checking his airway, then going back and doing CPR chest compressions on him all the way until the emergency response team got here."

First responders had to use a defibrillator to jump start the mans heart.

He was then transported to Bryan West where he is recovering.

The two men who performed CPR for several minutes until help arrived did not want to be recognized for their actions, instead saying they were just doing their job.

A job that saved a man’s life.
