Strangulation report leads to two arrests in northeast Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Two Norfolk residents were arrested Monday after one of them was reportedly strangled.

The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to a ranch southeast of Norfolk around 1:45 p.m.

A caller told them that a woman was being strangled after a man got on top of her.

Once they arrived, deputies took 52-year-old Barry Nichols into custody after a brief struggle.

He was carrying two knives and a set of brass knuckles, according to Sheriff Mike Unger.

Unger said illegal drug use may have contributed to the disturbance.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue offered medical treatment for the woman, 51-year-old Tonya Angell, who’d been found with marks on her neck.

Deputies later discovered Angell had five felony arrest warrants out of Madison County. The charges involve assault, drugs and missing a court appearance.

She was jailed in Madison.
