ASHLAND, Neb. (KLKN) – The SAC Museum hosted a car show on Father’s Day.

The event highlighted nearly 90 years of engineering and innovation.

Alongside the car show, awards and prizes were given out in several categories including Kids Choice and Best of Show.

Former NASA Astronaut and current President and CEO of the Museum, Clayton Anderson, said he believes the event serves as a great way to connect fathers with their families and bring communities together.

“One of the ways we try to accommodate fathers is our Father’s Day weekend car show,” Anderson said. “There’s a lot of dads who like cars, a lot of dads who like airplanes, a lot of dads who like outer space. So what better way to bring them all together than in an air-conditioned environment here at the strategic air command and aerospace museum.”

Anderson is originally from Ashland and has many memories from the area connecting him to the museum.

He hopes to create even more of a family environment and give back to Nebraska and the people that made him who he is.

“I was born and raised in Ashland, Nebraska,” he said. “My old house is like three miles away, and I used to climb around on this hill when I was a kid, so I’m home again, and being home is important. That’s one of the reasons I came back.”

Anderson hopes to see lots of changes in the museum over the next many years and ensures that it’s a great place to spend time with family.

“Family is hugely important, bringing your family out here is an excellent way to spend a great weekend,” he said.
