Stretch of 90s, yet warmest early next week
We’ve got a longer stretch of 90-degree days coming our way that just might take us through the end of June.
On average, we see about nine days in June that get to 90° or more.
So far this June, we hit nine days with yesterday topping out at exactly 90° here in Lincoln. So we’ll definitely surpass the average as we continue to have 90-degree days through next week in the forecast.
Especially by Monday and Tuesday, heat index readings could be 100-110° with quite possibly our hottest days of the year so far.
Friday will be mostly quiet by means of severe weather for southeast Nebraska. We’re waking up to a lot more sunshine and under breezy conditions, we’ll have no trouble getting to a high temperature in the lower 90s.
A similar setup to Thursday will play out on Friday for expected severe weather across western and northern Nebraska. The latest Storm Prediction Center update has another Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk over similar areas.
That greatest risk for severe storms will be from the late afternoon into the evening hours. Scattered, strong storms will flare up with damaging wind and hail as the primary hazards. An isolated tornado threat also exists.
Areas that have received a lot of rain recently in northern Nebraska will also face another risk of flooding into early Saturday.
There is potential for flooding again for areas that saw over 4-5″ in north central Nebraska recently. Another 1-3″ is possible from additional storms expected, so a Flood Watch is in place up north.
Closer to home on Saturday, the stalled front to the north will drop as a cold front and try to spark a few thunderstorms nearby. We’ll be watching that early afternoon potential with a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk for far southeast Nebraska in place.
A few thunderstorms will try to develop along a line from Hebron toward Lincoln and Omaha, yet they aren’t expected to be strong until they move farther south and east during the afternoon timeframe.
Other than that, we’ll still be quite warm and humid for a while yet. I’m sure local pools will be quite busy over the weekend!
