String of wonderful days continue; rain chances to come soon
Wednesday and Thursday will feel pretty similar as temperatures near normal. For mid-September, highs should be around 81° with low temperatures near 56° in Lincoln. We’ve been starting each day cooler than that, but efficient daytime heating keeps us just about right for Wednesday.
Right now, our weather is largely dominated by a region of high pressure at the surface. Basically, this is the reason for our fair weather recently. Winds generally move clockwise around this “high.” So being on the left side of the system, we’ll see light winds out of the south.
As we’ve seen in days past, cumulus clouds thrive in these conditions, so we may see more of those clouds building in from the south during our daytime heating in the afternoon.
Thursday will be a transitional day across the state. Rain chances will begin for those in the north and western parts of Nebraska, especially by Thursday afternoon. These showers and thunderstorms will be firing off a front slowly making its way east.
It should be nearing eastern Nebraska by early Friday, with scattered chances for these showers and storms Friday morning and into the afternoon. Some may linger into early Saturday, too, but not for long.
After that, we’ll see partly sunny skies for the rest of Saturday and be perfect for the first Husker home game that also has an evening kickoff!
