Strong, damaging storms reported in central Nebraska; isolated t’storm chance later
As the strong storms from overnight and this morning wind down and move northeast, there were several storm reports in Nebraska from the past 24 hours (this the latest as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning). Most reports were of thunderstorm wind gusts, with damage reported in a couple areas.
Near Minden – multiple, large tree branches were downed around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Near St. Paul – an emergency manager reported a trampoline on top of the roof of a home.
With hail that was noted, the largest stones fell from Monday evening’s storms in northwest Nebraska with golf ball-sized stones near Kilgore. The hail that occurred in Edison just after midnight that was around the size of a half dollar ended up breaking a couple windows on the south side of someone’s home.
A Flood Advisory was issued for Lincoln on Tuesday morning, with minor flooding happening within some low-lying areas. Central portions of town saw around an inch of rainfall overnight, with reports decreasing as you moved away from the center of town.
We’re not done with rain yet this week, or perhaps even today. But more on that later.
First, expect a cooler day as the backside of this system moves through the rest of Nebraska by this afternoon, with temperatures ranging from the middle 50s to the middle 70s across the state.
A High Wind Warning is in effect for southwest Nebraska as wind speeds climb to 30-40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph possible out of the northwest. It’ll be a windy day for all of Nebraska, but the rest of Nebraska not as much as out west.
By Tuesday afternoon after the sun has made its reappearance for a while, we’ll be watching again for some weaker, isolated storms across eastern Nebraska this afternoon. There is a Marginal to Slight risk across eastern Nebraska for these storms.
Again, Stormcast shows that maybe a few could be borderline severe by this afternoon as the backside of this system swings through with the cold front. This will be a much lower threat than what we saw come through early Tuesday morning.
Rain chances don’t stop there the rest of this week. More showers becoming increasingly likely Wednesday night into Thursday.
