Temperatures continue to fall as we head out the door, leaving us with chilly conditions by this afternoon. Strong winds return later this morning and will continue through this afternoon, with wind gusts upwards of 60 miles per hour across the state.

High wind alerts are in place across the state from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday. The majority of the state is under a High Wind Warning with wind gusts at or above 60 miles per hour.

Wind gusts will peak during the late morning hours, but strong gusts will remain a possibility throughout Thursday afternoon.

A small chance for a flurry starting in north-central Nebraska after a rainy start to the day. StormCast shows that most of us will remain dry, followed by clearing skies later this evening.

For the rest of the day in Lincoln, temperatures will fall as cold air surges in with strong westerly and northwesterly winds.

Many of us across the state will see cooler afternoon temperatures after we saw several mild days earlier this week.

Sunshine and highs in the 50s will return tomorrow before a seasonably mild weekend with highs in the middle and upper 40s. Following the winter solstice on Sunday, we ring in the first week of astronomical winter with high temperatures in the middle 50s. Odds of a white Christmas in Lincoln continue to decrease as we enter the final week before the holiday.
