Strong winds Friday start working arctic air our way for the weekend
The first half of Friday will be the warmest conditions we experience for a while (until late next week).
Temperatures will start out mild in the low to mid 30s, making a run for almost 50 degrees again.
Yet drastic change is looming. A rather strong cold front will drive northerly winds late in the morning and especially during the afternoon hours.
Gusts will ramp up to 35-40 mph across southeast Nebraska, today already working to bring the arctic air our way.
Even stronger winds will happen for those in central and northern Nebraska, with peak gusts around 45 mph Friday.
Behind the front, clouds will increase. Scattered snow showers in the Panhandle could add up to an inch or so tonight.
Dry air (we know all to well) will limit what precipitation we see late tonight. Maybe a few flurries will fall but nothing more.
Temperatures will plummet to the teens by Saturday morning. Winds will still be quite strong overnight.
Wind chills will be subzero by Saturday morning first. But the frigid air brings the biggest impact to Sunday, Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Afternoon temperatures will be miserable on Sunday and Monday.
After our coldest days of winter through early next week, we’ll start to dig ourselves out of the hole.
