Summer feel, record heat to winter in a matter of days
Temperatures are going to surge into the upper 70s to around 80° on Monday. Very warm weather expected with a lot of sun and a stronger wind out of the west and southwest gusting around 35 mph. This record heat will be challenging past records from the 1800s!
Winds across the state are expected to be very strong and out of the west. especially in the Sandhills, 40-50 mph wind gusts are possible by the afternoon.
Because of that and very dry vegetation across the area, all are under a Red Flag Warning in Nebraska for Monday. Any fires that ignite may spread rapidly under these conditions.
A season-changing cold front is going to usher in much colder air that will make it feel more like winter on Wednesday. The front itself will pass through on Tuesday, with a light band of snow not far behind. Light snow will move in and out quickly Tuesday afternoon and evening, wrapping up before midnight.
Tuesday afternoon and evening behind the front, very strong winds out of the north will be gusting around 40-45 mph.
Total snow will be less than a half inch for most, but with that wind – it’ll all be blowing around as temperatures plummet overnight.
Low temperatures by the time we’re waking on Wednesday will be in the teens across Nebraska. From the 70s and 80s Monday to the teens overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning. You’ll certainly feel the difference!
Also prepare for wind chills by Wednesday morning to be around a few degrees above and below zero. BRRRR!
