The Storm Prediction Center is monitoring the threat of severe weather this afternoon across western and central Nebraska. There is currently a SLIGHT RISK (Level 2 out of 5) as storms will be capable of isolated tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds. A severe weather watch may be needed for portions of the state this evening.
Stormcast currently shows a few scattered storms this afternoon and into the dinner-time hours. Any storms that begin to intensify this afternoon are expected to remain fairly scattered.
Heat Advisory:
In preparation for the upcoming warmer temperatures, much of the state is under a HEAT ADVISORY from 1 p.m. CDT until 8 p.m. CDT on Monday. Heat indices will be above 100 degrees, and extensions/additional heat watches/warnings may be put into place over the coming days.
Forecast:
Low temperatures tonight will fall to the low-to-mid 70s for southeastern Nebraska. Small chances of precipitation with partly cloudy skies and winds out of the east-southeast.
Mid-70s tonight in the Capital City with partly cloudy skies. We could still see a few sprinkles this evening, and the potential for patchy fog exists tomorrow morning, with minimal differences between the temperature and dew point.
Expect the first of several days of high temperatures in the mid-90s on Monday. Mostly sunny skies with a stronger breeze out of the south-southeast. Storm chances return to the forecast on Monday evening.
A few passing clouds will try and cool us off to no avail on Monday as we reach the mid-90s in the Capital City. Breezy conditions throughout the day will give way to scattered storm chances tomorrow night.
Summer is in full swing for the extended forecast with high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s. Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be the warmest in this first batch of extreme heat, with heat index values between 100-110 degrees. Scattered storm chances will be possible with these warmer temperatures over the next week.
