Sunny and mild on Sunday
Light snow seen through Friday night across the state, not amounting to much for many. Here in Lincoln, we’ve kept clear skies and plenty of sunshine with winds finally calming down to start the weekend. We’ll look to be warmer soon enough, and we’ll stay dry for at least the next couple of days.
But the calmer winds are short-lived. Overnight, winds will be picking up out of the south and southeast, gusting upwards of 30 and 35 mph. So even with mostly clear conditions, we’ll stay mild through the beginning of Sunday.
Mild temperatures in the lower and middle 40s Sunday morning means we’ll have somewhat of a “jumpstart” to warming the rest of the day. With that, 70s return back to the forecast for the afternoon with a pleasant, sunny day ahead of us.
Highs around the area should manage to climb into the lower 70s, if not the middle 70s. But during the afternoon, winds will be shifting out of the northwest and we’ll end up with a cooler day by Monday. There is also a weak cold front moving through the state on Sunday that may produce light, isolated showers before quickly moving on.
Eyeing Tuesday
There’s a lot of chatter so far about a strong system looking to develop late Monday into early Tuesday, bringing the chance for snow and rain through Nebraska, severe weather to the east.
As of Saturday afternoon, a Winter Storm Watch was issued for north central and western Nebraska starting early Tuesday morning. Accumulating snow looks to be likely in these areas through Tuesday and possibly lingering into Wednesday.
An early look at Stormcast with one of our models shows that eastern Nebraska should mostly see rain showers out of this system as it continues to intensify. We’ll be encountering a warm front that should send temperatures back into the upper 70s throughout the day, but much colder air by night. Temperatures right now look like they could fall 40-50 degrees throughout the day for southeast Nebraska.
Other than Tuesday, we have a slight chance for rain on Friday, with most of the extended forecast looking quiet with little to no precipitation.
