Superheroes come to life at Grand Comic Con

GRAND ISLAND, Neb.
While movie fans await the next chapter in the Avengers Saga, people had the opportunity to see their favorite character up close in Grand Island.
The second annual Grand Comic Con has moved to a new home this year.
Organizer Doug Holmes did not know if anyone would show up last year, but they did.
This year they moved to the Aurora Cooperative Pavilion at Fonner Park.
Comic books may once have been in the realm of geeks, but the popularity of characters like Spider-man and Captain American now dominates TV and movies.
“With the popularity of the superhero movies and the sci-fi movies, it has really mainstreamed. Kids that may not know the rich history of the past, they are able to pick up and jump right in. Spider-man is a character that they could relate to,” said Holmes.
The events wrapped up Saturday at six but they will be back Sunday.
The Grand Comic Con is free and family friendly. Sunday afternoon will also feature a costume contest.
