Suspect in Nebraska Panhandle drive-by shooting arrested after standoff
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was arrested Thursday morning after an hours-long standoff with Nebraska state troopers in the Panhandle.
The event unfolded in Oshkosh, a city of about 800 people northwest of Lake McConaughy.
A drive-by shooting was reported about 11 p.m. Mountain time on Wednesday. No one was injured, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
A short time later, the vehicle thought to be involved was found at a home on the other side of town, the patrol said.
Deputies with the Garden County Sheriff’s Office requested help from the state patrol.
The suspect — 54-year-old Henry Schuff of Oshkosh — refused to come out of the home, authorities said.
So the patrol activated its SWAT team.
Eventually, about 4:50 a.m., Schuff came out voluntarily, according to the patrol.
Numerous firearms were found in the home, the patrol said, and Schuff is prohibited from owning guns.
He was arrested and lodged in the Scotts Bluff County Jail on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
The patrol said additional charges are pending, and the drive-by remains under investigation.
