Suspect in Payless Shoesource robbery still on the run

Lincoln Police are looking for a man who robbed the Payless Shoesource near 27th and Superior Wednesday afternoon.

The 22-year-old clerk told police the man was following her around the store with a hoodie up and sunglasses on when she became suspicious.

She went to the front of the store, pushed the emergency alarm and called a family member. Shortly after, the man demanded money from the cash register, and her purse which wasn’t in the store.

Police said she handed over the money in a plastic Payless bag and the suspect ran off.

Police got to the scene shortly after, crediting their quick response to the clerk trusting her gut.

“If something doesn’t feel right it’s important to go with that,” Officer Chassidy Jackson-Goodwin. “That actually, from her doing that and taking those steps was able to get officers to arrive in the area faster because there were some fairly close to the area.”

Officers couldn’t find the suspect. He’s described as a black male in his 40’s, six-foot tall, weighing about 240 pounds. At the time of the robbery he was wearing gray sweatpants, a blue hoodie and white-rimmed sunglasses.

Call police at 402-441-6000 or Crimestoppers at 402-475-3600 if you know anything about this crime.
