Suspect wanted by NE U.S. Marshals dies in New Mexico shoot out

OMAHA, Neb. (KLKN) – One man, reportedly with “a history of shooting at police officers”, is no longer being pursued by the U.S. Marshals in Nebraska and Iowa following a shooting incident in New Mexico.
Benjamin Marley Manley, a.k.a Christopher Reeves, is a 36-year-old suspect wanted for attempted murder by the Council Bluffs Police Department.
The U.S. Marshals distributed a press release on Dec. 4 for citizens to be on the lookout for Manley, saying “he should be considered armed and dangerous.”
On Wednesday, Dec. 16, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents pulled over a silver Chevrolet Impala attempting to avoid an immigration checkpoint near Las Cruces, New Mexico.
The Impala refused to stop, so agents initiated a pursuit. The driver began firing multiple gunshots at Border Patrol agents, who returned fire.
The driver of the Impala was taken into custody near Truth or Consequences, New Mexico and taken to a local hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound. A female passenger was also taken into custody.
The male suspect, identified as Manley, succumbed to his injuries, passing away.
It is unclear whether Manley died from a gunshot wound sustained during the shootout or if it was self-inflicted.
The incident is currently under investigation.
