Three suspects connected to the homicide investigation of a Lincoln man at a park near Fairbury made court appearances Wednesday.

Jerry Gilbert, who is charged with second-degree murder and improper disposal of human remains in the killing of 28-year-old Marc Jarrell, of Lincoln, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and had his case moved to district court. Gilbert is set to appear again on September 12.

Authorities said they believe Gilbert fired the shot that killed Jarrell.

Co-defendants Caitlyn Grable and Trey Saathoff also appeared Wednesday. Both are being charged as an accessory to the alleged crime. Saathoff, 23, also waived his right to a preliminary trial. Grable’s attorney requested a continuance, which was granted.

Authorities said the alleged shooting took place at Crystal Springs Park earlier this month. Jarrell’s body was discovered alongside a road near Fairbury.
