Suspicious item removed from Lincoln home after search by police, LFR says
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A suspicious item was removed from a central Lincoln home Monday after police served a search warrant.
Police were searching a home near 28th and L streets in the Woods Park neighborhood when they stumbled on something suspicious, according to Lincoln Fire & Rescue.
LFR arrived shortly before 2 p.m. and was on scene for a couple of hours.
It’s not clear what the item was, but LFR said crews took it out of the home and will dispose of it.
“I did see some guys in armor at the other end of the block who were kind of going back and forth between the house,” neighbor Felicity Eckhoff said.
Eckhoff said law enforcement was asking people to stay in their homes for safety purposes.
Another neighbor told Channel 8 that a renter in the basement of the house has been behaving suspiciously, with vehicles coming and going from the home.
She said she feels safer now that law enforcement seems to have addressed the problem.
Eckhoff agreed, saying it’s generally a “pretty calm, pretty safe” neighborhood.
“I’m glad that this was taken care of,” Eckhoff said. “I’m glad that people were proactive about keeping each other safe and that this sort of thing was looked into more thoroughly.”
Police have not said what the search warrant was for, but more information is expected to be released Tuesday.
