Talk of heat especially next week
Summer heat that settles in like this can start to wear on you, especially looking ahead to next week. But first, we’ve made it to Friday! The morning hours were already running warm with temperatures hanging around the lower 70s. The afternoon will be hot again with temperatures in the 90s across Nebraska.
Expected to be a drier heat and somewhat cooler for those in the Panhandle with evening storm chances, but eastern Nebraska could yet again feel a few degrees hotter with humidity factored in.
We cool *just a touch* for Saturday under more sunny and dry conditions. Lower 90s are in the forecast across southeast Nebraska as seen below. Sunday will be the start of more significant, prolonged heat to last a majority of next week.
There will also be a chance for some storms heading into Sunday evening and night, but more details to be determined on this. As of Friday morning, the Storm Prediction Center does highlight eastern Nebraska for the potential for a strong storm or two to become borderline severe (60 mph winds/quarter-sized hail).
But next week, heat is the biggest headline. It’ll be an important timeframe to be aware of the signs of heat related illnesses, as we deal with it being hot day after day after day.
Heat indices will be in the low 100s to almost 110 degrees each day starting Sunday into Wednesday.
