LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Over $170,000 was donated to the TeamMates Mentoring Program in honor of legendary Nebraska coach Tom Osborne’s 85th birthday.

TeamMates and former Husker players Doug Glaser and Zach Wiegert issued the birthday challenge to raise money for the organization.

People were asked to donate $85 or $850 to the organization in honor of Osborne’s birthday on Feb. 23.

The challenge raised a total of $172,871.35, exceeding the $85,000 goal.

The funds raised will go toward a players’ campaign to raise $3 million by June 30.  The donations will help sustain TeamMates for the next 30 years, according to a press release.
