Teen apprehended after high-speed chase; vehicle stolen in Lincoln, troopers say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A teen driving a stolen vehicle from Lincoln led law enforcement on a chase upward of 100 mph.

The Nebraska State Patrol and Grand Island Police Department took a teen into custody after a pursuit Thursday in Grand Island.

Around 8:20 p.m., a trooper saw a Chevrolet Impala going more than 90 miles an hour on Interstate 80.

The trooper tried to pull the vehicle over near Grand Island, but the driver refused.

As a pursuit ensued, the vehicle exited I-80 and reached speeds over 100 mph while approaching Grand Island.

When the vehicle entered town, the trooper stopped the chase out of concern for public safety.

A short time later, Grand Island officers found the vehicle near Louise and Adams streets and saw the driver flee on foot.

Officers and troopers used a K-9 to find the suspect and take him into custody.  Dispatchers confirmed that the Impala had been reported stolen in Lincoln.

The driver, a 17-year-old male, was taken to Grand Island Regional Center for medical clearance and then transported to the Lancaster County Youth Services Center in Lincoln.
