LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 16-year-old boy in west-central Nebraska died Monday after police said he was injured while “car surfing.”

About 7:30 p.m. Sunday, a 16-year-old boy was lying on the hood of a moving vehicle in Lexington, police said.

The driver, a 14-year-old, stepped on the brakes because they thought a vehicle was backing out of a driveway, according to the Lexington Police Department.

That caused the 16-year-old to fall off the vehicle, hitting his head on the concrete pavement.

Officers performed life-saving measures on the boy until medics arrived, police said.

He was taken to Lexington Regional Hospital, then flown to a Kearney hospital, where he died.

Police said a 13-year-old was also in the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
