Missing teen in western Nebraska is found

UPDATE, 7:45 p.m.: The North Platte Police Department said Wednesday evening that the girl has been found safe.

In a Facebook post, police thanked everyone who “helped spread the word.”


LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Police in western Nebraska are searching for a 14-year-old girl who went missing on Wednesday.

The North Platte Police Department is looking for Gertie Werkmeister, a student at Adams Middle School.

Authorities say the teen left the school and met with a man at a recreation center across the street.

The two then left just before 11 a.m., heading east on Francis Street. The meeting appeared to be prearranged, according to the police department.

Werkmeister was last seen wearing a light blue hoodie and black sweatpants.

Police say the man she met was dressed in black. He’s described as a white male in his mid-to-late 20s.

They left in a dark-colored Toyota Tacoma with out-of-state license plates.
