Teen sentenced after fatally stabbing her father at southeast Lincoln apartment

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln teen was sentenced on Thursday after fatally stabbing her father more than two years ago.

Sallie Gilmer, 18, was sentenced to 40 to 60 years in prison for second-degree murder.

Gilmer pleaded guilty to the charge in November after taking a plea deal. The deal lessened the conviction from first-degree murder and dropped one count of use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

On Oct. 3, 2022, Jesse Gilmer Jr. was found with multiple stab wounds in his apartment near 40th Street and Nebraska Parkway.

Gilmer, then 15, and her boyfriend, then-16-year-old Isaac Honigschmidt, planned the murder a week in advance.

She was tired of her parents’ “constant fighting” and mental abuse from her father, according to an arrest affidavit.

Honigschmidt gave Gilmer a ride to the apartment that day so she could stab her father.

They went back to school for a brief time, then returned to the apartment so Gilmer could “discover” her father, the affidavit says.

Honigschmidt also tried to make it appear as though he and Gilmer were at school when the murder happened, according to police.

On Jan. 10, Honigschmidt plead guilty to one count of aiding and abetting the use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

He is set to be sentenced on Feb. 21.
