Teens in stolen vehicle caught after chase with officer in north Lincoln, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two teens in a stolen vehicle led an officer on a chase in north Lincoln early Tuesday morning, police say.

Around 3 a.m., an officer tried pulling over a vehicle near 27th and Vine Streets.

Instead of stopping, the vehicle – driven by 18-year-old Damien Schaffert – took off and ran over some curbs, police said.

Eventually, the vehicle – which was later found to be stolen – came to a stop near 30th and Fair Streets.

Schaffert and a 13-year-old boy ran out of the car, but officers found the duo and took them into custody.

Schaffert was arrested on suspicion of theft by receiving, willful reckless driving, not having an operator’s license and operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest.

Police said the 13-year-old was taken home to his family.
