Teens tried evading Nebraska troopers in high-speed pursuit on I-80, patrol says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two teens led troopers on a high-speed chase last weekend on Interstate 80, the Nebraska State Patrol says.

Around 11:45 p.m. Friday, a trooper tried pulling over a speeding Jeep Liberty near Gibbon.

The patrol said the Jeep pulled over, but the driver sped off when the trooper got out of his vehicle.

The driver turned off all of the lights and headed east at over 100 mph, according to the patrol.

A trooper threw down stop sticks to slow the Jeep just south of Grand Island.  The Jeep crossed the median and drove into oncoming traffic.

Another trooper used their patrol car to bring the Jeep to a stop, officials said.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from Grand Island, was taken into custody.  He was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including flight to avoid arrest.

A passenger, a 15-year-old girl from Grand Island, ran away but was eventually caught.  She was taken to Cedars in Lincoln at the request of the Juvenile Probation Services Division, the patrol said.
