Temperatures surge before cold front passes
A warmer day is expected Tuesday, even as a cold front passes through the region. Heat indices will climb in to the triple digits for some.
Tuesday will be Lincoln’s 26th day this year to reach 90°. Expect mid to high level clouds to be around the area through mid/late morning, but skies turn sunny for the afternoon. Temperatures will top out in the middle to upper 90°s.
Low-level moisture may surge ahead of the passing cold front, sending dew point temperatures in to the middle to upper 60°s briefly. This will send the heat index in to the 90°s to around 100°.
Drier air will begin to move in to the area behind the front. This should cause the heat index to drop below the air temperature for locales north of I-80 Tuesday afternoon.
Clear skies are expected tonight. Combined with drier air, temperatures should be able to fall back in to the lower to middle 60°s. While the air is cooler, I would not turn off your air conditioner tonight. I think the humidity will still be a little too high to open up windows and enjoy cooler air.
