Temperatures surpassing the century mark on Monday
It was a very warm start to our Monday, and that will be followed by scorching temperatures in the afternoon. Despite a few overnight thunderstorms, rain pushed off towards the east early Monday, leaving eastern Nebraska dry for the rest of the day.
Skies are mostly cloudy to start the day, although the sun will start to peek out as the morning wears on. We’re mostly clear to partly cloudy for most of Monday. The abundant sunshine will help high temperatures soar past the century mark. We’re forecasting a high of 103° in Lincoln. We expect breezy conditions to accompany the scorching temperatures.
Humidity will make the temperatures feel a few degrees warmer than the actual air temperature. A Heat Advisory is in effect for all of southeast Nebraska from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. The “feels like” temperature – or the heat index – may approach 110° in a few locations. Hydration will be key on Monday, so please drink plenty of fluids and take it easy outside.
While eastern Nebraska should remain dry, I cannot rule out a few popup storms towards central Nebraska during the afternoon and evening. The Tri-Cities may have to dodge a few of these, but they should not affect Lincoln. These storms will be very hit-or-miss.
While temperatures cool off overnight and into Tuesday morning, it will still be a very warm night. We’re talking overnight lows near 80° in many locations.
Tuesday looks to be another warm day, although we may end up slightly cooler as a cold front approaches. That could pop off some evening thunderstorms, which could last through the first half of Wednesday.
