The City of Lincoln Reminds Residents to Have a Safe Holiday Weekend

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The City of Lincoln is reminding residents to have a safe a clean July 4 weekend by following city ordinances.

These ordinances include Lincoln Municipal Code 9.44.080 which allows the sale and use of fireworks from 8am to 11pm July 3 and from 8am to 11:59pm July 4 every year. Another code is the Lincoln Municipal Code 9.44.100 which states it is unlawful for any person to discharge or fire any fireworks (or objects) which explodes on impact with another object such as a car, street, person, etc.

The Lincoln Fire and Rescue also urge residents to achieve fire safety standards when working with fireworks. These include but are not limited to keeping fire use to experienced, responsible adults, do not wear loose clothing and keep water nearby when working with fireworks.

The city says that these laws will help keep people safe while celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States this July 4.

To report fireworks violations, you must have an address or description of the property before calling the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) non-emergency number, 402-441-6000. Call 911 only for emergencies. Community members may monitor fireworks-related calls received by LPD by visiting the daily call summary at lincoln.ne.gov/LPDSummary. Fireworks calls are listed in the “Disturbance” category.
