The Iron N, a student led group that promotes Husker sports, is welcoming Scott Frost in a big way. The group is responsible for making the banners, seen each football season in the student section of Memorial Stadium. This year’s theme was to welcome home Scott Frost. The near 4,000 square foot banner has been a work in progress for months.
"Hours and hours we put hours into tracing and it takes hours to paint," said Mackenzie Burk the Vice President of The Iron N.
Even though the game was canceled The Iron N released the banner over the student section right before kick off. With dozens of students putting in thousands of hours of work, they say a big reveal like Saturday can bring on some big nerves.
"You have butterflies because you’re about to be judged by 90,000 people probably plus, because it’s the first game, and it’s Frost. Like I said we’re not nervous but we are definitely anxious and kinda on the edge of our seats," said Swazy Dalrymple.
While their banners are seen by thousands on game day, The Iron N members say few people see the work that goes on behind the scenes.
"It’s time consuming and it means a lot. I think a lot of people don’t understand that this isn’t something we just do in passing, they think it’s something like ‘hey they we’re commissioned for it.’ Maybe ‘they get paid for it.’ We don’t get paid, this is all us, and it means a lot to use because of all of the time and dedication we put into it and we just hope everyone enjoys it as much as we do," added Dalrymple.
"It’s rough, part of the night we slept in our car in the parking garage to make sure nobody drove over it. We were at the Devaney center until midnight up tracing," said Hallie Lockhart President of The Iron N.
