The Story of Catfish Kolby: An 11-year-old with a mullet and a growing fishing bait business
Kolby Nash created his own homemade fishing bait right in his kitchen. Now, he's gained popularity in Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – For 11-year-old Kolby Nash, his days are never boring. He goes to school, plays on the baseball team, fishes and owns his own business.
Last year, he decided to make his own homemade fishing bait in his hometown of Weeping Water.
“I started getting stuff out of my cabinet,” Nash said. “I’m going to go and mix them all together and see what happens.”
Nash went fishing with his dad and a couple friends. To their surprise, the fish started biting. Catfish, crappies, bass, bluegill and more, wouldn’t stop coming out of the water.
Friends suggested the Nash family start selling the bait.
“I think it started out as 10 jars down at our local express lane in Weeping Water, somebody took it to Louisville State Park,” Nash’s dad Brandon said.
Ten jars turned to over 1,000 jars. Bait stores throughout Nebraska, Iowa and even Minnesota wanted the secret ingredient bait. It’s now sold in over 60 shops. Nash is saving the money, but also giving back.
“I sponsor Weston Reiman, he’s going to be a Husker football player, Nash said. “I’m going to sponsor a Wicked Whisker Catfish tournament.”
Nash said its challenging to make it in the fishing bait business, but he’s determined to succeed all at 11-years-old.
