Thief cut gas tanks from vehicles in north Lincoln, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police are seeking a thief who cut gas tanks from vehicles at an auto shop in north Lincoln earlier this year.

On Oct. 15, security cameras spotted a person pulling a wagon and messing around the vehicles parked at an auto shop near 11th Street and Cornhusker Highway.

It was later discovered that the gas tanks of two vehicles were cut off and stolen, according to LPD.  The gas tanks are valued at $1,000 per vehicle.

Police are also looking for information on a hit-and-run near 27th Street and Briar Rosa Drive on Dec. 4.

LPD said a witness heard tires screeching outside her home and found that someone driving a Ford Escape had crashed into a traffic sign.

The driver pulled over, got out and observed the damage before taking off.

Anyone with information on either case is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
